The Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize

Tuesday 6th September 2011.

The winner has now been announced for this years Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize has just been announced by Jools Holland and the award goes to PJ Harvey for her Let England Shake album. This is the second time PJ Harvey has won the Mercury Prize. In 2001 she was the first female to win the award with her album Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea. She now becomes the only artist to have won the prize more than once.

PJ Harvey won this year’s award having been picked from the following shortlist of nominated albums:

Adele – 21
Anna Calvi – Anna Calvi
Elbow – Build a Rocket Boys!
Everything Everything – Man Alive
Ghostpoet – Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam
Gwilym Simcock – Good Days At Schloss Elmau
James Blake – James Blake
Katy B – On a Mission
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins – Diamond Mine
Metronomy – The English Riviera
PJ Harvey – Let England Shake
Tinie Tempah – Disc-Overy
