Peach Bells
Released on 8th December 2014
Cristobal And The Sea have totally wrecked my head with their debut EP. Peach Bells is a melting pot of sounds which very much ers on the side of World Music ( if you’re looking for a genre) than it does anything else. Not exactly my realm of expertise but there is so much life and soul to be found here and everything has been put together in a way that it’s basically a big party, a fiesta, a carnival…. and everyone is invited. Even the slower tracks Zorro and Gardens still manage to keep just enough movement and interest in the concoction of sounds to keep the party going.
Single Love (Ay Ay Ay) is a stand out track, perhaps because I’m so familiar with it, also perhaps because it is by far the most off the wall party piece of the five tracks. I do not think I’ll ever get bored of this song or ever stop smiling at those bird noises at the very end. Disquiet has a fairly amusing 70s TV theme vibe to it too, which, combined with, what feels like a Stella Artois Ad inspired track in parts, Violet Tear, really brings an even bigger smile to my face. This EP is so warm and rich in every conceivable way and the sounds evoke such different climes to the ones in which reality finds us listening, that Peach Bells becomes a fantastic piece of escapism. It’s simply a delight.
