From the second Max Taylor opens his mouth and that first note escapes exquisitely from it, is around about the time I began to hold my breath. I didn’t even notice until about half way through when I exhaled loudly. The Optimist is a delicate track that slowly unfurls, featuring a stunning and soulful falsetto, a piano and the strings give it a real classic feel and it’s so elegant. There’s an electronic percussion aspect at the thickest part of the track that anchors it to the now but it’s a truly stunning piece of music that holds on to a more classic era of song writing.
