Single Review: The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – The Body

The Body

Released 25th July 2011

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart have been bumbling around for quite some years now and whilst always on my to listen to list, this is the first time I’ve really paid attention to them to be honest. It’s another really 80s shoegazing indie style track, which from what I’ve heard so far of them, seems to be their speciality. There isn’t much of a modern twist on it, with the exception that the production seems to be brilliant too.

This was such a pleasant surprise that it made me go away and listen to some of their other tracks too, literally whilst in the middle of writing this review. There’s something really familiar about the main riff/melody in this, though I can’t quite put my finger on it (New Order is screaming out to me but who knows why exactly). Whatever it is, I like it. I also absolutely love the wonderful video for this single, it is in itself a work of art, so great to watch and really captures the essence of the song, something that so many videos don’t really do any more these days.
