Single Review: Dutch Uncles – The Ink
The Ink
Released 26th September 2011
On first listen to this I thought it was perhaps a bit of an odd choice for a single as it didn’t really grab me. However, time is what this track requires and the more I listen to it the more I kind of get it, but still not quite as a single. It doesn’t have the catchy chorus that most singles tend to have and it does feel a little on the long side but then just because that’s the way most singles are doesn’t mean they all have to be, but regardless as much as the song itself has grown on me, a single? Hmmm, not for me.
The Math Pop guitars and the synths puts me in the mood for a little bit of Foals and then a bit of Everything Everything. It’s a great mixture and the vocal works really well, in fact I love it. As much as I’m starting to really appreciate it as a song though, I’m really not entirely sure that others will accept it as a single either. It does need rather a lot of work to get into it and toward the end it does start to be a little too repetitive. I’m not sure it will get enough exposure for people to really start to invest in it. This is maybe not an odd choice for a single, but a brave one and an interesting one.
