Single Review: Andy Burrows – If I Had A Heart

If I Had A Heart

Released 3rd October 2011

I’d love to shout about this and rave about it, but I can’t. In fact there’s nothing overly great I can say about this at all. Other than…. it’s a vast improvement on the solo material he released last time around. OK so I know that was a very specific project to do with childhood poems or somesuch thing, but still, it was pretty gut wrenchingly difficult to listen to. This is much more palatable in comparison.

Sadly though, in comparison to other releases floating around it doesn’t stand up. Perhaps if I indeed took the title more to heart I’d find it within me to say something really nice about it, but as soon as the song was finished, I have to admit that I did feel almost relieved. I don’t know what I wanted or expected from it, or even if I expected or wanted anything at all. It’s a pretty enough ditty, it’s got some basic production and sounds a bit like something a 15 year old could do in their bedroom these days. It is kind of catchy but just feels so lacking in so many levels. Maybe fans of Razorlight will support him, and bless him he is lovely and he does indeed have a heart, but he’s worn it out on his sleeve with this one. Sorry Andy.
