Single Review: The Sea – New York
The Sea
New York is released on 9th April 2012.
Some of you may remember The Sea, some of you will think I’m talking nonsense but honestly, this band have been around a fair while now and already have a critically acclaimed album under their belt. Now they return with their single New York. The first single to be taken from their second album, Rooftops, released May 7th.
New York is what I would call a typical The Sea song, it has a rough n ready vocal, slightly dirty guitar and in a way it’s a bit like an almost knackered pair of converse. Almost pushing their luck, but looking and feeling so great all the same. The Sea also seem to be another British band (I’m not sure they sound it, or that I forgive them for their almost American accent) who have seemingly made it bigger over in the US than they managed to really do on their own tiny shores.
The lyrics “New York take me back home” could be taken either way I suppose, but I hope they mean home home, London home. There’s a real upbeat feel about the track and some instrument delights, you can’t beat a bit of brass. The production is pretty solid too and all in all this is an enjoyable track, which I hope is just going to lead to even better stuff on Rooftops.
