Single Review: Sub Foucs Featuring Alpines – Tidal Wave

Tidal Wave

Released 29th October 2012

So two of Popped’s favourites in electronic dance music have gone and got their game on together and what a result. Whilst many of you will know of Sub Focus, local (to us) electronic duo Alpines are probably less familiar to the masses. Not for much longer. This track pulls together the larger than life beats from Sub Focus with the softer elements and vocal being brought to the mix by Alpines.

The result is something very big and very cool, at least I think so, and I’m pretty sure there will be plenty of others who agree. Sub Focus is pretty good at making drum and bass a little more accessible and while there will be plenty of cries of Sell Out from some, it’s often his collaborations that keep him with one foot grounded to a more underground place.

It’s already been given the Zane Lowe seal of approval, which might not mean much to you and I but on a larger scale it is pretty good. For me it’s the composition of the track, it’s ebs and flows, more than the lyrical content that grab me. I love the way it builds and there’s just not one single part of my very makeup that doesn’t want to jump up and down to this. Another job well done.
