Single Review: Janice Graham Band – Assassiner

Assassiner

Released 10th September 2012

I have witnessed The Janice Graham Band play live and quite impressive they were too, I have been waiting for a time such as this; a time when they have a single out for me to review and that I’m awake. This time has now come and I should delay no further. From the off you might be forgiven for thinking that it might turn out to be all a little bit too Madchester with the baggy trippy vibe and then all of a sudden it goes a little more Wu Tang Clan, with a very Mancunian accent. If you’re anything like me then you’re ears will pick up and your attention will be turned  immediately.

Despite wearing their influences on their sleeves Assassiner manages to sound a little more on the fresh side than on the been there done that got the t-shirt side. I wonder if the Inspiral Carpets, Primal Scream etc are listening to this and thinking…. ohhhh we could have gone there with our stuff. Now is the time for Janice Graham Band to knit together something all together more interesting, at least for 2012. A fine example of how it’s still possible to find a new way to put forward sounds and swaggers of the times gone by and done by four young lads who really know what they’re doing.
