Single Review: Chapel Club – Good Together
Good Together
Released March 4th 2013
I am in no doubt whatsoever that this new direction from Chapel Club will cause uproar with some of Chapel Club’s pre-existing fans because this is pretty far from anything they have done before. You know what I say to this? Good! Fans who can’t support a band’s choice in how they want to sound, how they wish to experiment and progress are not fans of the band at all. By all means go ahead and dislike it, don’t listen to it, don’t buy it and find something else that you do like, continue to enjoy the old releases but don’t try and stifle someone else’s creativity. As a reviewer I’m always finding it difficult when someone who I used to like changes in a way that I don’t personally like, but it’s almost for that very reason that I try to only feature stuff that I want to share. Good Together is VERY much something that I want to share with as many people as possible.
Chapel Club have gone from shoegazing guitar strumming indie to get up and go electronic pop starts and their single Good Together is really damn fine and catchy. Even if you’re disappointed in the direction you have to appreciate that vocally it works, and to have a vocal that can work in a variety of genres is pretty cool. Every time I put this song on it gets the replay treatment. I’m not sure I want to listen to a million and one remixes of it mind you (there seems to have been some kind of competition for peeps to get involved and do this) but as a stand alone single it gets my repeat custom. It will remain to be seen how I interpret this change of direction when it comes to their album but for the time being I’m a fan of the old and of the new.
