Single Review: Racing Glaciers – First Light

First Light

racing glaciers first light Released Summer 2014

Racing Glaciers have produced yet another perfect piece of intelligent indie pop with First Light. I love the very tender moment where there is very little sound and how it perfectly reflects the lyrics “you’re biting your tongue, you’re biding your time” and then the emotion fuelled attack that it builds up to. With a fierce rush of guitars and the driving force of  those guitars and the bass all underpinned with the rich brass.

The track builds and dips, constantly keeping your attention. There are changes in pace, in texture and timbre but always driving forward. There’s a point in the mix that the guitar blends so perfectly with the trumpet it’s just sublime. The percussion and bass help keep the tempo pulsating feverishly while the keys add another layer of sound and feeling. All in all this lead single from the band’s forthcoming EP,  Don’t Wait For Me, will catch people’s attention. Live the track is as emotion riddled and passionate as you could ask for. One of my favourite songs and bands so far this year.
