Carl-Barat-And-The-Jackals-Glory-Days-608x608For the benefit of everybody who doesn’t read the British Tabloids, Carl Barât is one half of the song writing partnership that made up The Libertines, a band that achieved some mainstream success during the early noughties. Unfortunately, following the release of their debut album, the band soon became bogged down in the off stage antics of song writer Pete Doherty, which included a truly surreal episode where he was sent down for the burglary of his bandmate’s flat.

Following the band’s split, the pair embarked on a series of solo projects and bands which have achieved some critical success in the UK. If rumours are to be believed a new Libertines album is in production, so the appearance of Glory Days, the debut single from Carl Barât’s newest side project, Carl Barât and The Jackals, may give us some insight as to what we may expect.

Though not as frenetic as some of his earlier work with Dirty Pretty Things and The Libertines, Glory Days does feature their familiar blend of nostalgic lyrics and spiky guitars. The track echoes the lyrical theme and off beat rhythm guitar of early Dirty Pretty Things track Gentry Cove, with the added bonus of some cool percussion from Alfredo Ortiz of Beastie Boys to freshen things up a bit. Though pretty good in its own right, its main appeal will lie with the existing hordes of fans the original duo have amassed here in the UK.
