Single Review: Hozier – From Eden

From Eden

hozierReleased December 1st 2014

As one of my favourite tracks on the album I was both thrilled and yet surprised to see this From Eden was getting a release. Why? It’s already been released earlier this year as an EP. I suppose you could say that it’s so good that it’s worthy of getting another shot and yes that is indeed true. However, with a big H, there are so many other great tracks that could equally be singes that I kind of feel a little at odds with this.

Not to mention of course that one of the best bits about the album version of From Eden is that amazing flamenco breakdown, which, is totally and brutally scrapped in the single edit. Oh what a sin. Indeed, it is Hozier. Or at least, it should be.

None the less…. I absolutely, hand on heart, adore this song. It has all the elements one might require from a soon to be hit single; a staccato-esque chorus which is easy to sing and clap along to, memorable riffs and hooks to reel you in and a drum beat to drive it all forward. And of course then there’s just the fact that it’s Hozier singing. I suppose really he could lose the rest and still get me to buy whatever it is he’s peddling, released already or otherwise. Such is his tone and his clever turn of phrase within his ghostly storytelling. How does one fall in love with such macabre antics and yet still feel so alive? I may never know, but to hell with it, I really don’t care. I just want more.
