You Can Have All The Wonders

from kid You Can Have All The WondersReleased February 2nd 2015

Words: Nick Jaques

Andrin Berchtold and Gian Reto, are the 2 founding members of the Swiss band From Kid. The main ingredients on show here are indie-pop, electronica, folk with a large dollop of warmth and embracement. This is their debut outing and just like a fresh and bright day on the Swiss Alps, it’s clear to see that From Kid’s influences range from the production of the Cardigans, a helpful sprinkle of vocal harmonies from the Shins and the cinematic feel of Oz favourites Empire of the Sun.
You Can Have All The Wonders flows in and out of acoustic balladry and friendly electronic beats that also have a slight dash of Kraftwork about them too. For example This is all provides us with this. The vocals play an understated role with the focus mainly on lyrics, electronic and acoustic arrangements with a pleasing emotional depth that From Kid display with clarity.
Stand out track Come In has the hallmarks of becoming a dance/pop anthem. Breathy vocals with an Irresistible warmth play along effortlessly with bouncy synths and beats that keep the listener in check. It has the potential to be a hit in the making
There is a strong Ballad/acoustic feel present throughout the album and it lends itself well to songs such as Itself, which has an uplifting climax provided with tribal drums and tender strings.
Other highlights include Water falls; It has a palpable sense to it lyrically and it’s genuinely heart felt about trying to make sense of relationships and how they feature in a world with its constantly demanding environments. From Kid are not afraid to show off their feelings here.

Colours has lovely guitar exchanges with upbeat, reflective lyrics possibly about a lost love.Lyrically the album is about how to handle feelings in testing situations and trying to understand them
Possibly the best moment on here is Closing scene. It lends the album another dimension with the introduction a brass section which works well with the sparse beats and played down synths. Adding a touching and melancholic feel to the proceedings.

You Can Have All The Wonders strengths lie in its confidence, honesty and fresh production, touching lyrical content and the duo’s heartfelt vocal delivery. They utilise their vocals with positive results here – using them to their advantage, just as much as their instruments.
From Kid bring the album to an end with the moving cinematic soundscape that is Dead Ends. It leaves you feeling that you could indeed have all the wonders of the world!
These Swiss boys have given us an uplifting and heartfelt debut effort which makes you feel like you are standing on the Swiss Alps admiring the view. A pleasant and enjoyable listen – time for après ski!
