Liverpool 14th May 2016

git award 2016The Getintothis Award, GIT Award, for short,  has become a firm and exciting fixture in the Liverpool music scene calendar. Dubbed ‘The Scouse Mercury Prize,’  and backed by Yoko Ono, the winner of the GIT Award 2016 will be revealed on Saturday 14 May 2016, at it’s new home of Constellations in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool.  As tradition has it the winner will receive a specially commissioned trophy and cheque for £1,000! Not one to pass up on eh!

As always the standard of local music acts is so high I have no idea how the team of local new music promoters, journalists and other industry bods managed to pull together a short list let alone pick out an over all winner.

The nominees are all set to play live at Constellations ahead of the winner being announced at an invite only show which will include set piece visuals and exclusive artist collaborations in what’s set to continue to be a highlight of that musical calendar of ours.

Heavenly Records founder Jeff Barrett, and GIT Award 2016 judge, said: “Here at Heavenly we’re really excited to be part of the GIT Award again this year. It’s great that the Award is in its fifth year, as it is a great way to celebrate music from the Merseyside. The selection of artists on the shortlist is proof once again that music from Merseyside is as exciting and eclectic as ever. When last year saw the closure of one of our favourite venues and art spaces The Kazimier, it’s fantastic to see that the music has not been lost and that these young groups are constantly reinventing themselves in interesting and innovative ways despite the changing landscapes around them.

This year’s acts short listed for the award are:

Clean Cut Kid
Dragged Into Sunlight
Hooton Tennis Club
LUMEN
Mic Lowry
Mugstar
RongoRongo
Bill Ryder Jones
Stealing Sheep
Trudy and The Romance
TVAM
The Vryll Society
