Perhaps not our usual kind of festival but when every other person you know is raving about it you have to take a closer look. Beat-Herder has been going a full ten years before I paid it any attention and last year I learnt that we had been missing out. Just look at this year’s line up poster if you want proof!
With indie legends James up on in to take on the earlier announced Primal Scream (not entirely sure why they’re no longer playing) but a fine fine replacement none the less for those who want huge sing-along choruses. If it’s more about the beats then the likes of Todd Terje and Digitalism more than have you covered, along with a whole host of other acts. The Dub Pistols will also be bringing their special blend of beats and skank and well there’s pretty much everything in between.
It’s time to Heard ’em up!
ONES TO WATCH
Clean Cut Kid
We’ve been banging on about these three guys n a gal so much that I’m starting to feel like I should just join the band and be done with it. Huge huge love for these people. Since I became hooked on their first single Vitamin C they have followed it up with equally intelligent, sentimental tracks which all find a way of weaving their melodies into your mind and well and truly getting their hooks into you – with their brand new single We Used To Be In Love, another sparkling example of how!

This isn’t the first time I’ve picked these guys as a must watch in one of our festival previews, but it’s a well deserved place for Beat Herder. Having witnessed their journey, I’ve slowly but surely not just fallen for their music – the harmonies, the sweetness and textures, but their coy innocent performance which now brings an assuredness to it even though they are happy for everyone to see their vulnerabilities, both in person and in their music. Brand new single Quicksand delivering the goods once more, this time with quite the sombre message.

The Vryll Society
We’ve had the pleasure of seeing this band many times and our Gaz Jones spent a lot of time on tour with them leading up to festival season to deliver us a tour diary and record the band’s expeditions. If you’re looking for shimmering, swirling, atmospheric guitars with a splash of pop all played as tightly as you like then this will be your first port of call.

Fronteers
We’ve yet to see this quartet from Hull, who jingle and jangle their sounds with a laid back and very familiar sound. One which would suggest they’ve already lived through a musical era that is way beyond their years. We will be going along with eager eyes and ears. Their latest track Nothing’s Ever That Simple, taken from their recent EP, pings, pops and of course, jangles it’s way through your skull eventually landing you in the realisation that you’re not sat/stood still any more.
