Always The Sun is a brand new music festival in leafy Guildford, Surrey. We are really hoping that aside from their smashing line up, that the weather will live up to the name – so far the weather websites are in agreement but we all know they can lie. It won’t matter though, rain or shine, not with a line up that enjoys both local talent and known names such as Mystery Jets and Turin Breaks, as well as some of the best up and coming bands from around the UK. Some of our faves are playing so of course we are headed along to check it all out. The line up is so good because legendary local venue and creative project The Boileroom is involved… need we say more?
Always The Sun isn’t just about music though, there’s a full programme including the Great Guildford Bake Off (we’re considering trying to enter our famous malteaser cake with Ziggy Stardust gold malteaser design – yes, really), I digress, there’s also wellbeing and comic workshops and a whole abundance of things to keep everyone happy. It’s a family friendly festival too with kids under 11 going free – how very generous – but no, I’m not offering my super babysitting skills!
ONES TO WATCH
The Big Moon
I first saw the Big Moon in the Summer of 2015 where they played to less than 100 people. It’s fair to say that they have now played to much larger crowds than that and have been tipped across the board as ones to watch and watch we will continue to do – while also yelling at anyone who will listen, to check them out.

Spring King
Having been writing about Spring King for an age, and having even interviewed them already, I only saw these guys do a live show in the last few months and woah. I know exactly now what it is I have been missing out on and I feel like a bit of a schmuck about it but hey ho what can you do, shit happens. I am excited as hell to watch them play live again – you will want to bounce around, I promise.

The Amazons
The Amazons have an incredibly tight live set and it’s no wonder considering the amount of shows they have played this year. I can’t even begin to try and count them up – but if there’s a festival happening these guys are most likely playing it. Fair play to them – this will be their 1000,000 performance (I jest), but they will still, somehow, find the energy to play it fresh as if it’s their first. Get ready to swoosh your hair!

Get Inuit
Absolutely some of the funniest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting – not only are they great in person but they bring both humour and kick ass sounds to their live set and it’s a pleasure to watch – though I’ve only seen it once. I knew straight away that I would want more at the first opportunity. See them now! Don’t wait!
