Just Listen: Caesar – Crossed Wire

Caesar

Words: Gary Feeney

ceasar cross wireManchester four-piece Caesar are fairly new kids on the musical block, a status which would be hard to guess from their powerful new single, Crossed Wires.

A song of several parts, the first minute or so is a gentle, ambient instrumental which reminds me of the sound of waves lapping on the shore, before being joined by a loose drum pattern and singer  Will Carkeet’s plaintive vocal. A song which fuses shoegaze and melancholic indie, the musical complexity of the track subtlety increases as it progresses, with extra layers being added to the drums and sparse, haunting guitar chords, weaving intricate melodies which keep you captivated right through to the rousing finale.
