Quarantine Questions: Zuzu

Quarantine Questions
Additional words and photos by Gary Lambert
One of the benefits of Quarantine has been that acts who would normally be in rehearsals, the studio or on tour have been able to open their homes to the world and live stream everything from gigs and chats to pub quizzes, make up tutorials, and even Saturday Kitchen style food demonstrations. These events on basically any kind of social media account have given fans a look at a side of their idols that they don’t always get to see. Zuzu has been one of the leaders in this. Hardly a day has gone by without a life insight, a tutorial, or a few songs – and she’s even taken that on to the big telly in the house with an appearance on Russell Howard’s Home Time.
1. How are you doing?
Sound! Writing a lot and cleaning a lot haha. Bit like Groundhog Day and I miss my friends and family but it’s a small price to pay to keep everyone safe.
2. How have your recent releases/gigs gone?
It’s actually been good, I had my E.P How It Feels come out during lockdown which I had plans to do a E.P launch party and sign everyone’s records and hang with everyone for a bit but of course plans changed. I’ve defo got a new appreciation for connecting online with people. There’s so many cool way’s to virtually hang out and I’ve been enjoying getting to know some of our listeners more personally.
3. What are you doing to keep yourself occupied in Lockdown?
Writing tunes, playing with my cats, watching weird shit, and reading weird shit.
4. Who have you been listening to recently?
I’ve been obsessed with Dua Lipa’s new record. I’ve also been listening to our kid’s EP a lot. Munkey Junkey – Numbness , all three tracks are boss.
5. What has been the favourite gig you’ve played?
I LOVED playing at the Arts Club in Liverpool back in February. I got such a warm response and they knew every word.
6. If you were only able to listen to one album in quarantine, what would you pick?
Probably Digital Ash in a Digital Urn by Bright Eyes. It changes all the time though.
7. What would you say represents your sound?
Errrrrrrrm, I dunno. I guess I want it to be fun above anything else.
