Liverpool Sound City 2015

This year’s Liverpool Sound City is going to be entirely different to anything that has taken past in their 7 year history this time it’s a little less City, a little more Docks. As they began to out grow their city centre shackles a move was imminent and the Sound City team have decided to re-locate to an exciting new location at Nelson Dock. With the change comes a fresh start for the festival, allowing it to make creative changes and work with a variety of promoters and media partners for their new stages, from local promoters such as Evol to national media partners such as XFM.

In this preview we’ll give you a few more of our top picks from each day at the festival along with another Festival Highlight.

FRIDAY

The Vaccines – Atlantic Stage

It’s not often that we’ll pick a headline act as ones to watch at a festival but in this case it’s an absolute must. You’ll find us there, probably right down the front causing all kinds of mayhem. The Vaccines have been a staple part of the Popped Music team’s musical diet for sometime and so of course we are jumping all over this.

Listen to Melody Calling by The Vaccines here:
Polar States – The Record Store

Indie rock fuelled tunes full of melodious riffs, catchy hooks and sing along harmonies is what you get from Liverpool’s Polar States. We’ve not seen them live yet but they are right on up there for us to check out on the Friday at Sound City.

Find Polar States on Facebook.

SATURDAY

Cavalry – North Stage

Having just released the first piece of new material in almost a year Cavalry have certainly managed to capture our attention and that of many others as positive reviews fly thick and fast ahead of their Liverpool Sound City debut. Another one of Liverpool’s bands to make our must see list, proof that Sound City really is putting forward some of their home-town’s greatest new prospects.

All We Are – Atlantic Stage

These guys have been creating a buzz since 2014 and the release of their debut album saw them catapult into being one of the most talked about bands of 2015.

Listen to Utmost Good by All We Are here:
Judas – North Stage

London four piece Judas are bringing together blues infused guitar, rock n roll melodies and bags of attitude with their swaggering sounds. Their last track Youth Of The Young Age is reminiscent of The Courtnners and a slight vocal delivery of AM era Alex Turner. I’m hearing a lot lately that guitar music is dead, well Judas are proof that it’s definitely not.

SUNDAY

Broken Men – Cargo Stage

Liverpool’s very own Broken Men will take to the Cargo Stage as part of what we’re dubbing “Liverpool Sound City Super Sunday”. Basically so many awesome bands we don’t know who we’ll end up seeing. What we do know is that we’ve already seen these guys an obscene amount of times this year and their high energy show and angst ridden lyrics are going to be pulling us their way once again.

Find Broken Men on Facebook.

Listen to Tone Deaf by Broken Men here:
The Mispers – Baltic Stage

The Mispers delivered one of our absolute favourite tracks of 2014 with the single Shoulder and it would be remiss of us to say that their live show didn’t stand up to the brilliance of their recorded work, because it does, and much more. Liverpool you’re in for a treat!
