Fine Print

This is the debut self- titled EP from electronica duo Fine Print. Born out of a shared love for the underground scene in London and EDM, this duo have been causing somewhat of a stir since they streamed 2 of their tracks and managed to attract the likes of Tame Impala’s producer, to me they’re doing just fine!

This is ice-cool electronica from this duo – if you like your EDM served chilled then Fine Print is definitely for you! On their first EP, sounds and influences are strongly linked to Shuggie Otis with hints of Everything But The Girl and Jamie Woon thrown into the mix, with a bit more emotional restraint.

For me, the strongest track of the bunch is first track About You. This is a nice slice of chilled-out electronica. Meditative guitar strums coupled once again with those smooth tugging heart-strung vocals, cool understated beats and a thoroughly pleasing saxophone solo which slots in perfectly with the duo’s all around vibe and sound.

Can’t Lie has a more soulful presence, those Shuggie Otis/Everything But The Girl influence come through again and it’s completed with the well-rounded vocal performance which again impresses – it adds just the right amount of emotional depth to their performance. The production is once again languid and laid-back with the lyrics “actions speak louder than words” effortlessly sung over the chilled out vibes.

Third track, Really, showcases delicate and glacial vocals hovering over mid-paced EDM beats and Shuggie Otis style riffs giving an overall lush and languid feel. While the final track Tell Me is filled with tender piano notes, hushed vocals, emotive tones and sparse arrangements making for a moving and refreshing mood which they project to the listener.

This is EDM for those who like things with a body and substance. This is post-clubbing chilled-out grime for the masses. Fine Print are a music act who have managed to strike a good holistic balance of aesthetics with substance in their music.
