Single Review: The Drums – Money

Money

Released 12th September 2011

Summer is here so it’s only right we welcome back The Drums with open arms. Money is the first single to be taken from their forthcoming album Portamento. Not only do The Drums make amazingly catchy tunes but they manage to make them in such a way that makes it almost infuriatingly impossible to like. Their style and lead vocal is becoming quite easily identifiable even in a market that’s becoming quite saturated with similar sounding bands. The Drums have kept to what they know best with this single, it has the high vocal, the harmonies the fast pace and a fantastic bass line that makes you swing your hips all over the place. It makes you feel good.

Not only does the song sound great to listen to even if you’re not paying much attention to the vocal but actually so many people right now will appreciate the sentiment. In a time where people are struggling money wise and countries all over the world are in recession how do a band manage to come along with such an upbeat song about not having any money? I can’t quite figure out how the two ideas juxtaposed would work, but they really do and you only need give it a listen for yourself to know I’m right.
