During Augustines’ excellent set at Kendal Calling last year, William McCarthy asked the crowd if they wanted to hear a “piano banger or a guitar banger”. Neither are phrases you tend to hear
often, but nonetheless, the latter could have been coined just for the band’s new single, Are We
Alive.
A thunderous affair featuring a powerful, steady drum beat which propels the verses, exploding choruses and a typically impassioned vocal from McCarthy, the track typifies everything good about Augustines but with prominent synths on the verses, there’s an extra dimension that bodes extremely well for the band’s future direction.
