Just Listen: The Insomniac Project – Vacillation

The Insomniac Project
Words: Gary Feeney
It seems that there’s another good new band appearing in Glasgow at every turn these days, with latest on the impressive conveyor belt being electro 6-piece The Insomniac Project. I only caught the tail-end of their support set with Crash Club last week, but that brief glimpse was enough to be fill me with intrigue and everything that was good about it is captured here in their second single, Vacillation: produced by Lewis Gardiner of fellow Glaswegian act Prides, it is quite unlike anything almost anything else you’ll hear this year.
Boasting a sound that combines acid-house and disco (something the band seem keen to stress) with a killer sense of melody, Vacillation is a track that will have your head nodding and feet tapping from the first minute until the last. With an irresistible rhythm, an exceptional powerful vocal from Deborah Lang and memorable harmonies, Vacillation is a song that will stay in your head long after it finishes and is a mighty statement of intent from The Insomniac Project. A guaranteed dance-floor filler.
