Just Listen: Baby Strange: Pure Evil
Baby Strange
Words: Gary Feeney
Introducing itself with a simple yet instantly recognisable guitar riff from singer/guitarist Johnny Madden, one which lurks menacingly in the background throughout (and which sparks crowd mayhem from the first note live), Pure Evil is propelled along by the thunderous drums and bass pairing of brothers Connaire and Aidan McCann as Madden spits and snarls his way through the verses before the anthemic, clarion-call chorus which sees the frontman declare that he’s tired of his generation.
At just over three minutes, Pure Evil manages to encapsulate everything that is so brilliant, so exciting about Baby Strange in one thrilling swoop: brimming with pure rock’n’roll energy and armed with a formidable back-catalogue of songs which already have minor-classic status within their burgeoning and committed fan-base, Baby Strange seem for all the world like a band on the cusp of their major breakthrough.
