Emerging from Atlanta, Georgia is the hopeful new band Gringo Star. With Atlanta having become synonymous hip hop throughout the 90s and noughties – there is also an underappreciated indie-rock scene which is starting to cause quite a stir within and beyond the confines of Atlanta. Gringo Star are one of the torch-bearers for the scene and on this evidence they may well be onto something. With influences from the kinks and slight dash of Devendra Banhart thrown into the mix, their new single Heading South plays out with undeniable charm and has that summer time vibe splashed all over its spritely acoustic chords. The release of their debut album The Sides And In Between on August 26th should make for compulsive listening too.
