Hey, we are Abi, Max, Al, Frankie & Humphrey. We’re in a band called MarthaGunn, named after a famous heroine in Brighton. MarthaGunn was famous for dipping people in the sea as a spiritual healing ritual.

How did you all meet and what is it you saw in each other to decide to start a band?

We all met in Brighton through friends at a rehearsal space called Brighton Electric. We love writing music, sharing that together feels great. We all just fell together, when something feels good, you keep it going.What do you see as being your biggest challenges ahead as a band? 

Where we will eat every day on tour. We are all vegetarian/vegan. What have been your highlights as a band so far? 

Releasing our first single ‘Heaven’, on Jazz Life was a pretty defining moment for us. It was our entry into the world. Since then we released a double A side on Communion. It’s been a great year. We’ve had the opportunity to share a stage with Matt Corby, Mumford & Sons and James Bay – that was pretty special.Are there any new bands you love who you think everyone else should be checking out now too? – Please let us know who!

Clever Thing are amazing, and also Sam Jordan & the Dead Buoys. What do you do to ease the boredom of long journeys for gigs?

Cards against humanity is a favourite. Humphrey just sleeps. There’s normally a good playlist or Songhoy Blues’ album blasting.What are your pre-show rituals?
