Just Listen: Eat Fast – Public Display Of Affection

Eat Fast

Words: Gary Feeney

eat fastWould it be too trite to open this with a phrase like “Eat Fast by name, Play Fast by nature”? Well, yes…but nonetheless, there it is. The new single from Newcastle band Eat Fast, Public Display of Affection, is a frenzied rush of fuzzy guitars, harmonies, and killer lyrics, fusing My Bloody Valentine/Jesus & Mary Chain style walls of distortion with the upbeat indie of more recent acts like the Vaccines into a track which is instantly addictive. With the vocals quite low in the mix and blending into the music, the lyrics can be hard to pick out at first, but there’s no mistaking the brilliant opening line advocating marriage in a corner shop – it’s a fantastic way to start and it only gets better from there.
