Just Watch: Vant – Do You Know Me

Vant

Words: Gary Feeney

vantWith almost 5 million Spotify streams to their name, it’d be fair to say that VANT have been making their presence felt since the release of their first single less than two years ago, and with their debut album, Dumb Blood, due next month, they look set to explode into the mainstream.

In preparation for the album’s release singer, songwriter, guitarist and name-giver Mattie Vant and his band have released a new single in the shape of Do You Know Me to whet the appetite, a task which it more than lives up to – it’s a sizzling number bristling with attitude, musically reminiscent of the Hives with sharp, jagged guitar lines, but it’s Vant’s impassioned vocal and typically loaded lyrics which take centre stage. Taking aim at the mind-numbing drudgery of dead-end jobs (“I’m alcoholic cos’ it numbs the pain, everyone I know tends to feel the same”), it’s the kind of song that says “f*ck you” to bosses across the world, and which demands to be played up full, and often.

On this evidence alone, Dumb Blood, promise to be one of the highlights of the year.
