Just Watch: Lucy Rose – Floral Dresses (Ft The Staves)

Lucy Rose

Words: Julia Grantham

I first came across Lucy Rose when I was fortunate enough to review her second album Work it Out back in the summer of 2015, and her popularity and recognition has continued to grow since then. This latest single Floral Dresses (Ft The Staves), showcases a return to her folk-acoustic roots and highlights her love of Joni Mitchell. Her voice is beautifully poignant, soft, delicate and demonstrates such skilful harmonies, blended with two other female vocalists. It is accompanied simply by a single acoustic guitar, with great effect. This is a sad song, telling the tale of a woman who is turning her back on someone who made her feel worthless. It is full of sadness, but with a sense of hope. I love the line ‘I’m growing older each day, but my heart still remains”. I think there’s a message for us all
