Tear
Words: Julia Grantham
I couldn’t resist the opportunity to review this latest track from Tear when I had the chance. Having discovered them in the autumn of 2015 via Tim Burgess on twitter-they’re signed to his label-I reviewed an earlier song of theirs and this current one Begging is just as deliciously dark and seductive as Beautiful (also featured on their mini album vinyl01). With guitar riffs that mirror bands such as Hole, Tear have their roots in 90s grunge but succeed in making their sound entirely theirs by bringing their own raw and melancholy vocals, reminiscent of Kate Bush in places. This track is as intense as it eerie. The pace of the song is built around the same three chord guitar riffs which set a sure but steady tempo. This is a band who surely need to be seen live, preferably in a dark, grimey basement gig venue to be appreciated. Have a listen, get hooked and check out: for a handful of spring UK tour dates.
