Live Review: Haus – Brighton
Haus
Komedia, Brighton, 21st April 2017

Kicking off their latest UK tour at Brighton’s Komedia, HAUS are set to stop off in Nottingham, Bristol, Manchester and London along the way. The 5-piece indie rock outfit made the trip to the south coast for what was set to be a special show for the intimate venue.
Support for the tour came from Hartlepool based Plaza. Starting their set off with debut single Totem was the right choice for the post-indie rockers. With this show being their first ever gig in Brighton, they sure knew how to tackle the crowd, with mid-set jokes and captivating lyrics the ever-growing crowd got rowdier by the minute. Unreleased track Fickle was a set highlight, and was what the band described as a generic love song, which opened with David Attenborough’s voice booming over the PA. The band clearly pride themselves on their live shows and their on stage performance is definitely one you wouldn’t want to miss out on.
By the point it was time for HAUS to take to the stage, Komedia was full to the brim of fans, many of who seemed to have come quite far for the special occasion. HAUS are one of the most energetic live bands on the scene at the moment, and it reflects in the crowd. Hit single Gave You All was a personal set highlight as singer Ashley Mulimba jumped into the audience to dance and sing along with fans. Throughout the show, it became clearer and clearer that the band are huge fans of the small and intimate shows as it allows them to play to their full potential. Two Minds had the crowd singing back the lyrics ‘stuck in two minds, one or the other, telling your truth through lies, don’t blow my cover’ seemingly very relatable. Jangly guitar riffs and electronic beats are regular components in most HAUS tracks, as shown in set closer and most popular track Haze. If you can, catch these London based boys at their intimate shows because I have a feeling they’ll be rising up to bigger and better venues asap.
