SXSW With: Pale Waves

Pale Waves

Words & Photos: Elena Katrina

Do you want to do something with Pale Waves at SXSW was the e-mail I had a few weeks ago. YES! Was my answer… then nothing, zip, nada. Then when chased “they’re not doing press”. NO. Not taking that as an answer because that’s not true. So when I had the fortune to meet their manager I said… I just need 2 minutes and then gave myself the challenge of running the quickest ever interview of my life – and possibly theirs. Pale Waves have about 10 shows at SXSW and are possibly the most in demand British band here, so I started my chat with Heather and  literally 1 minute 25 seconds later I was done… but here you have it, our SXSW With Pale Waves….

Tell us a little bit about you and how Pale Waves came to be at SXSW this year?

Heather: So we started the band in Manchester when me and Keira were 18 and then Charlie and Hugo joined and we did a lot of touring, a lot of shows and we came over here with The ’75 (That’s the 1975 to you and I) and we established a great fan base and then did our own tours here and I guess we just got asked to be booked cos of that.

How are you finding it so far, this is what your second? third? fourth show on day 2?
Amazing! Sometimes it can be a bit rough because it can be a bit hectic but that’s all part of it isn’t it? We’ve got a lot of press, a lot of acoustic stuff but yeah it’s going great.

What are your plans moving forward after SXSW and further into the year?

An album, fingers crossed. No, you will be getting an album. Festivals more music videos and more shows.

Do you like doing the music videos?
It is hard work but….. we’ve got a new music video coming up for Heavenly. It’s our best one yet I reckon!
