Mary Miller, roll that name around a while, for it’s a name you’re going to be hearing quite a lot of in the future. She keeps winning all kinds of things, most recently she won the apply to play competition run by Bushstock Festival. A festival we love dearly and an act we’re super keen to get to know more about, so we jumped at the change to shoot over a few questions as well as get Mary to make us an exclusive playlist.
Popped: Where were you when you found out you’d won this spot and how did you celebrate?
Mary: I was in the studio! So I didn’t really get a chance to celebrate…it was a lovely feeling though, and it’s such a good way to have my first London gig!!

Popped: how will you prepare for Bushstock festival?
Mary: Loads of rehearsals. I just played The Great Escape and Focus Wales which were good prep too. It’s a different environment at a festival, seeing how an audience react who might not have come to see you specifically gives it a different vibe, it’s really fun.
Popped: Have you got any must-see artists when you get to the festival?

Mary: Freya Ridings!!! I’m a bit obsessed with her, her voice is so dreamy. Grace Carter too, there’s so many insane women on the lineup.
Popped: Tell us something about you or your music that you’re keen for people to know about you:
Mary: Maybe that I produce everything myself…I’ve always been really into hip-hop and sampling and just love messing with a sound and manipulating it into something completely different to what it originally was.
Popped: What else is in the pipeline post-Bushstock.
Mary: Mainly my EP release! The first song is coming out within the next month…other than that, I’m going to be playing LIMF with LIMF Academy! I’ll be playing in London on August 9th with LIMF too, and have a song coming out that I’ve been working on with Steve Levine which is all really exciting.
