Just Listen: Lucia – Blue Heart

Lucia – Blue Heart

Words: Rob Connor

Whoever was the inspiration for Lucia’s new offering, “Blue Heart” clearly has a lot to answer for, but thankfully this track is one of the better byproducts of the situation. Whilst the lyrics are of a questioning manner initially, it ramps up through the emotional gears and becomes a track that literally drips with defiance.  It’s tone veers from spikey anger to remorseful melancholy, but always with a cool as you like air of control. It’s a track that wouldn’t sound out of place on the soundtrack to Luther.

Lucia’s vocal melds beautifully with the rasping guitars and it is easy to see why they have had such a rapid rise, supporting the likes of Maximo Park and making it onto the T in the Park bill last year. Blue Heart” is a confident, assured offering from an act that is already reaching heights which others may be proud to peak at. However, just like with the inspiration for this track, Lucia have little time for sentiment, aren’t prepared to settle for second best and are moving onto better things
