Just Listen: Spinn – Stuck on a Feeling
Spinn
Stuck on a Feeling
Words by Gary Lambert
During the long, hot summer of 2020 (which is still a few days from officially starting), the 2018 eponymous debut from Spinn has been given a fair few plays in my house. The jingly delights are sunshine turned to music, and now with Stuck on a Feeling we have the first release from the follow up album to that beauty.
There is a noticeable change to the sound of Spinn. Whilst the scouse jangle pop sound of Andy Power’s guitar is still obviously there and provides the flourish that is synonymous with their eponymous Spinn, the lads seem to have spent the last two years finding a way to make the rhythms of Sean and Louis within their music sound bigger and bolder without overwhelming that beautiful guitar sound.
The overall combination of this more mature sound is that Spinn now sound more like Echo and The Bunnymen than The La’s, but with the joyful brightness provided by Johnny Quinn’s singing enrapturing the listener like watching the sunrise on Summer Solstice.
This song is boss, and you can take a summation of this review from the lyrics of the song, Stuck on a Feeling I must be dreaming.
