Man on the Bridge

Words by Gary Lambert

If you are a subscriber to Flying Vinyl then Man on the Bridge, the latest single from The Novus, will not be new to your ears as it came as part of their May package of 7″ singles.  If you’re not, then this might be just what you’re looking for.

Lyrically and vocally, Man on the Bridge brings forth Proustian hints of a sneering version of Paul Heaton, but backed by with a freshly rampant indie sound that in decades gone by could have lead to a one-near-hit wonders like Bennet (Mum’s Gone To Iceland).  More pertinently, there are happy similarities too to one of my favourite new bands, Stanleys.

There is energy and connectivity abounding through Man on the Bridge.  It calls to be listened to again and again.  Which I’ve been doing.
