A new single and EP announcement, it must be our lucky day – Gen and the Degenerates are back for 2022 with an amazing single in ‘Girl God Gun’. Having always been probed with the question: ‘what’s it like to be a woman in music?’, this new single is the satirical answer.
Gen explains: “I wrote this song out of a frustration at having my art and work viewed primarily through the lens of being a woman, when there are so many other things that I identify with more strongly. It’s written as a stream of consciousness response to that frustration every time I’m asked “what’s it like to be a woman in music?” and it depicts both the real and abstract things I identify with more than the label of Woman.”
The sarcastic tone to the vocals and lyrics, the tight pounding drum beats, electrifying guitar melodies and fantastic production create an addictive track that quite frankly I cannot stop listening to. If this is the taster for what’s to come in Gen and The Degenerates EP ‘Only Alive When In Motion’, then I’m definitely hungry for what they’re serving us.
