Single Review: Zulu Winter – Never Leave

Never Leave

Released 7th November 2011

The driving beat of this track is what initially caught my attention, those drums work hard to push the track ever forward and keep the track upbeat rather than letting it drag into something that could easily have become very shoegazy and possibly almost dreary. Shoegaze is all the rage again right now and whilst I’m loving it this does feel quite refreshing.

The break in Never Leave comes as a nice surprise and gives the song another dimension and further interest. If you’re looking for a great chorus then you can find one here. As can you find a great ending, a big echoy “waaaaaaa”. There are moments within the track where I find myself thinking of bands such as White Lies, though this really isn’t quite as heavy and indulgent as that, there’s a much lighter feel to it, and the electronic element takes them out of that bracket. Yet that drumming and the guitar still makes me think of them even if just on the periphery of my mind and in some weird and twisted way.

For a début release on a small label, Zulu Winter can and should expect to pick up quite a following based on this release. Now can someone point me in the direction of some more please?
