Lucia Fontainé
Words: Gary Fenney
Although Lucia Fontainé’s name is one that has been bubbling just underneath the surface in her native Glasgow for quite a while now, she’s an artist who has been hard to pin down for most of that time. With live shows mostly restricted to support slots (and a somewhat surreal appearance with the Bay City Rollers at the Barras, apparently at the personal invitation of the 70’s pop legends), the 19 year-old had maintained a relatively low profile until she released her debut single Lose My Mind back in July.
Following on from that tantalising debut, Lucia recently released the excellent Best Boy to build on the hugely positive reception which she had received previously. Cut from a similar cloth to Glaswegian contemporaries such as the Van T’s and Honeyblood, Best Boy features fuzzy, reverb-laden guitars under Fontainé’s dream-like vocals, combining to produce a sound which is both urgent and wistful at the same time and which cements her status as one of the top Scottish acts to look out for in the coming months and beyond.
