Singer-songwriter Annabel Allum has come a long way musically since the release of her first track, Foxes, surfaced back in 2017. A haunting folky number, Foxes was a clear sign of the now 20 year-old’s talent, but since then she’s undergone a distinctive transition towards being one of the most vital young rock voices on the scene, first through previous single Rich Backgrounds and now the excellent Eat Greens.
Pitching somewhere just in between punk and stoner rock, the fuzzy guitars and snarled-yet-sarcastic vocals combine to produce a song which is both playful and gritty, as encapsulated in the lyrics which see Allum pondering over the merits of right and wrong via the medium of, erm… vegetables. It’s an unusual twist, but there’s something quite impressive about sounding so vexed about eating their greens.
With her own distinctive sound and style (Annabel has gained endorsements from a few clothing labels), Eat Greens suggests that Allum’s musical journey is destined to lead to great things.
