Gloucestershire singer-songwriter Devon is nigh in impossible to find online at the moment, but on the strength of his debut single Weirdo, that situation is going to change very soon. A quirky affair, it’s an instantly addictive track which is in turns an anthem for outsiders and a casual dismissal of poseurs with the defiant lyrics combining perfectly with a brilliantly upbeat rhythm. It feels like each verse has a different musical arrangement with shuffling drums, searing guitar lines and wah-wah ruffles coming together under Devon’s distinctive, playful vocal to create one of the most promising debut singles you’ll hear this year.
