Just Watch: DMA’S – In The Air

DMA’S

Words: Caleb Curtis

DMA’S are going from strength to strength. After a hit debut album Hill’s End in 2016, the Australian three-piece treated us to a brand new single back in late 2017 with Dawning. It marked an evolution of their sound, but one that was very much grounded in familiarity. This statement remains true for the second single In The Air, released from their upcoming album For Now. A sweeping, melodic ballad, it further highlights the potential this band have to become the next big thing over here.
Its immediate, shimmering guitar riff is a soothing introduction to the new single. “Who’s been fooling my emotions?” asks lead vocalist Tommy O’Dell in the song’s opening line. His soulful vocals are still at the forefront of attention here, and rightly so – his voice remains one of the best in the genre. DMA’S are in no rush here – the track swings along at its own leisurely pace and makes no apologies for it.
For fans of a 90s sound such as The Stone Roses or Oasis, this band are a must. They might wear their influences on their sleeves, but it makes for an act that are both familiar and refreshing. Sophomore album For Now is released on the 27th April 2018, and it won’t be one to miss.
