Discovering new bands is my thing, even if I’m late to the party – and I’m late to the party with Francobollo. But last night I found myself watching them for the first time and wondering why the hell that was, because they are so great; engaging, slightly unhinged, dynamic… all the stuff that makes for a great live show…. talent aside. Thankfully the band decided they’d be kind enough to give us some of their time so here goes today’s SXSW With feature…. with… Francobollo.
Tell us about Francobollo and how you came to be here at SXSW this year.
Simon: We’re a band we’ve been together for seven years and we’ve been playing live for five of those years not thinking of anything else. Enjoying life. And then we decided to release a record last year. It’s called Long Live Life, and since then we’re climbing up little staircases here and there.
Petter: Showcases
Simon: getting more shows… enjoying life even more.
How have you found your visit to SXSW so far?
Petter: we’d like to thank the momentum fund for giving us money … just get that in (laughter) because otherwise we wouldn’t be here. We had no money.
Sam: Giving out hugs. It’s made me affectionate. Thawing my ice cold heart.
What happens when you go back to England?
Sam: I just prod people with my elbows. I go “hi” and hit them with my elbow [not even a handshake then?]. I’m the guy that opens doors with my arm. Can’t touch it… ugh.
What else have you got planned for this SXSW?
Simon: We have two more shows.
Sam: I think we’re gonna take a day trip out away from the festival and go and find somewhere to swim naturally and just get away. The person we’re staying with is this brilliant woman called Vanda. She’s got a car, she’s offered to drive us out to somewhere beautiful. I think we …. I mean I’m a city boy but these three are all from rural Sweden and you should see them just come alive when they get to see fresh water and sunshine and trees and stuff like that. Me… I like exhaust pipes and fights.
And when you go home, what’s the plan long term, post SXSW?
Simon: Record more songs ….. release songs quite frequently this year and then leading onto an album late this year, early next year.
Petter: Realistically next year.
