Just Watch: Banfi: Never Really Cared About You

Words: Nick Jacques

Never Really Cared About You has vocals and music styles that are wedged firmly between that of Bombay Bicycle Club and Alt-J – the vocals are smooth and reflective, the drums and guitar dynamics play out in a measured but expressive fashion.

The single’s accompanying video also makes for immersive viewing with the theme of it playing on the scenarios and the emotions that couples can experience when relationships breaking down. Its diverse and humorous approach and it supports the meaning of the song’s lyrics appropriately.

Banfi have been able to flex their musical muscles with high-profile acts such as Nathaniel Ratecliff, Bear’s Den and have also performed at well-known festivals including Citadel. They recently released their debut ep The Jack Powell EP, from which this single is taken.

Through hard-graft and intelligent song-writing Banfi have been making waves and I am sure many will become familiar with the colour and shape of their sound by the end of the year.
