Just Listen: Saltwater Sun – Hot Mess

Saltwater Sun – Hot Mess

Words: Nick Bewes

I was a big fan of Reading five-piece Saltwater Sun’s last single The Wire earlier this year so I was looking forward to hearing what came next. And I’m not disappointed. Hot Mess is anything but a mess. In fact it shows a different side to the band, not as in your face or straight indie rock. It seems more mature, edgier, the guitars are fuzzier and vocalist Jen Stearne is on fine form, showing off her punk snarl. If you think along the lines of angry Wolf Alice, you won’t be far off the mark! Let’s hope Saltwater Sun can match or surpass Wolf Alice, the promise is there. They will be heading out on tour in September. Including a date for us at 22 Sept – EBGBs, Liverpool.
