Just Listen: Black Honey – Midnight

Black Honey – Midnight

Words: Gary Lambert

After three years of listening to and watching Black Honey, it’s easy to say that they are constantly improving with release after release without dropping a confusing dud.  But I was not prepared for the step into the unknown which was to come with Midnight. We still have the sexy sneer of rock n roll which is their motif, but there is such a thick slab of ABBA’s Gimme Gimme Gimme in there that we reach a new height.  In fact, I would say that Midnight is closer to Scissor Sisters than anything I’ve heard since Jake and Ana were monarchs of the crossover market. It is truly wonderful. Like listening four or five times in a row wonderful. It makes you want to dance a dirty dance at midnight and beyond.  If this is the teaser for their forthcoming debut I’m nauseous with excitement now.
