Just Listen: Lucy Rose – Solo (w)

Lucy Rose – Solo (w)

Words: Rob Connor

“Somethings missing when I’m solo” sings Lucy Rose on this stripped back second offering from the upcoming fourth album ‘No Words Left’, but anyone familiar with her work will know that nothing could be further from the truth.

This melancholic reflective lullaby to a time that has now passed, perfectly captures the emotions of someone who has been consumed by a raft of conflicting emotions but can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The track opens with just Rose and a sparse piano part that sets the stage for her delicate vocal to really shine. The jazz like chord progressions and the subsequent introduction of the saxophone, really lend themselves well to her distinct honey sweet lilt and create that intense but uplifting tone.

The track crescendos beautifully to the point where Rose’s vocals are raining down on your ears like a warm summer shower. It’s a stunning follow up to the brilliant ‘Conversations’ and really whets the appetite for her album and upcoming tour to the point where people will be literally salivating uncontrollably by the time she plays her biggest headline show at the Barbican in December.

So get yourself a bucket and have a listen.
