Just Listen: Emilie Kahn – Three

Emilie Kahn – Three

Words: Rachel Allen

Montreal born Emilie Kahn has ironically released her third single called ‘Three’ from her album ‘Outro’ and has indeed created a song of three parts.

The indie-pop queen has crafted three songs into one seamlessly forged track, which ebbs and flows like you’ve never seen. Her vocal adapts expertly through each section of the song matching the emotion and feel of each part.

The first section is an eerier, more melancholic creation with just guitar and some electronic sounds, leading into a more punchy, fast paced full band sound with a catchy vocal melodic hook and a smooth segway between the two.

The song ends with a key change into a light and relaxed love affair section with a more stripped back instrumental sound and vocal. In this song journey, Kahn talks about desire and the need for full understanding within a relationship, which is just the type of ebb and flow that the vocal and instrumentation represent.

It’s a truly interesting hill and valley song and has a uniqueness that certainly piqued my interest!
