Just Listen: Saltwater Sun – The Great Deceiver

Saltwater Sun – The Great Deceiver

Words by Gary Lambert

With this title track of their forthcoming EP, Saltwater Sun have managed somehow to keep up the style of the earlier songs like ‘Hot Mess’, but fill it full of steroids and Saltwater.

The husky/quiet opening leading to bouncy dream pop is still there like Pixies formed in Brighton (I know Saltwater Sun are from Reading), but the huskiness has moved from twenty to forty cigarettes a day, the swirls and bounces take place in a musical tornado, and the overall sound of the record is drowning in effects.

It is absolutely glorious and brings to mind the similar step up in class provided by ‘Je Suis Cool’ from The Van T’s.

This could very well be the start of The Summer of Saltwater Sun, if not then it’ll be next summer. It’s coming.
